In 6th grade, students get to pick an elective: band, art, or drama. Brooks chose drama. Well, a couple of weeks ago he asked me if I thought he should try out for the 6th grade play. I completely had no opinion. Usually I have an opinion on these type of things--- like - yes, you definately need to try out for student council, or yes, you definitely need to play fall baseball, etc.. This- trying out for the play - I had absolutely no opinion. He doesn't strike me at all as the "drama type". He's more of a sports kind of guy - but whatever. So these tryouts have dragged on for a couple of weeks now. Last week he told me, "I'm up for a lead". Great - that makes me a little nervous - I mean we have no experience in this family with drama - but whatever - yay! So on Tuesday he comes home and says, "I'm either gonna be a lead part or the understudy, which I am happy about either one." I think to myself - "Yay for you - way to embrace the drama thing dude." And I'm also secretly thinking to myself - he really could be the next Zach Efron!!! ;)
So I picked him up after his last tryout today and he gets in the car just so beatin' down. He said, "I didn't get the part AND there is NO understudy". So he goes on to tell me, "well the teacher couldn't decide between 2 of us for the part. so we read lines again and she said we were both equally as good. so she flipped a coin." I shrieked in surprise, "SHE WHAT??????? SHE FLIPPED A COIN??????? WHAT IN THE WORLD!" I mean- is that how Tom Cruise got his start with a lucky flip of a coin?
Oh, how my heart hurt for him. This is just one of many life lessons and heartbreaks for him.
So my dreams of the next Troy - NOT SO MUCH

that is hilarious...I can't imagine flipping a coin..maybe she thought that was fair...who knows? Maybe next time...but what a great kid to try!!! When he becomes famous...he'll have a great story to tell, kristi
That makes me sad. Ridiculous to just flip a coin for those kiddos. WAy to go for him though on trying out and getting so far!
