Halle Caroline and I declared Spring Break 2010, "The Worst Spring Break Ever". Well, I guess I could be exaggerating, I mean no one died and no one got cancer. So yay for that! However, Halle Caroline did come home from school on Friday with a fever. uggghhh. Really, the Friday that Spring Break starts? yep. So, I just assumed it was a virus. The whole weekend she ran fever, no other symptoms, except maybe just a little bit of a sore throat. Nothing that she was complaining of very much. Sunday, woke up with completely weird swollen gums and fever blisters. weird. never seen that before. On Monday, she's still running fever so I take her to the dr. THE WONDERFUL MOM LOSER MOM THAT I AM WAITED TO TAKE HER TO THE DR UNTIL MONDAY. this is where we pray that the gladney homestudy person is not reading my blog. So we make an appt. Our pedi was out of town and our favorite nurse practitioner was booked, so I get to see some dude named Mohammad (sp.?) that we've never seen before. great.
Well Mohammad walks in... and he is not what I expected.... he walks in with a very loud "WAAAZZZZ UPPPPPP????" Come to find out Mohammad is quite a character and he's from Ghana. Totally cool! We loved him. I told him that we were adopting from Ethiopia and asked him questions like how far was Ghana from ET.... he says, "come with me..... " He takes us to this other patient room with a huge map of Africa. He tells us some things about ET. He said that he came home on the plane with 3 families that had adopted from ET and "you could just see the joy in their eyes". Anyway, long story short, Halle Caroline had strep! Loser Mom - I could have remedied that on Friday with some antibiotics. She'd never had strep before - how was I to know?
I'm glad we didn't have some extravagant beach vacay planned. It would have been miserable. Anywhoo, no fabulous pics of the kids building sand castles or playing putt putt or dinner at fabulous restaurants in this post. One day I was driving Brooks to a friend's house, and he said, "why are you so quiet?" I said, "Cuz it's spring break and it's cloudy and ugly and we didn't go on a vacay, and I just want to be somewhere sunny." He said, "well, you get to go to Ethiopia in about a year (TWICE), so be happy about that." Nothing like your kids to put you in your place.
Lets end this post on a positive note... Some things that make me smile...
1. I think we sold like 42 beach towels for our fundraiser. :) I have to go back and count for sure. I lost track. Praise God! I have been monogramming non-stop!
2. I made a rainbow cake with Spring colors. That just makes a person smile.
do not even judge my icing skilz. I didn't have it in me to make homemade icing after baking those 5 layers. The can of icing didn't quite cover the whole cake. Martha and Whatever would not be happy.
2. I had been in the monogramming dungeon and I came in to find this cute little set-up. Ellison had lined up her Littlest Pet Shops all over the room. I just had to smile.
3. This is a drawer in my monogramming room. It makes me smile every time I open it. I heart ribbon.

So sorry to hear you didn't have a good spring break, but just think of all the wonderful things happening in your future!!
Do you have any beach towels left? I need to order a few, and I keep forgetting to do so!
I heart ribbon, too. Happy you're smiling again!
We got our towels today! LOVE them! Thank you!
Hope HC is feeling better, strep is no fun! We got on Tuesday to discuss taking T's tonsils out for that very reason. YUCK.
Thanks for all the great interesting news! Well was that Mohammed another sign or what!! Strep - don't you remember getting that so many times when you were little! I'll never forget the doctor telling me that the next time you came in with Strep that he was going to schedule a tonsilectomy for you. Well, you never got strep again as a child. Love to all, sorry that I couldn't get up there this weekend!
too funny...ok how did you make that cake...my kids would LOVE it, kj
So sorry for the sickly spring break. But that cake would be more than enough to lift my spirits!
Love & Blessings from Hong Kong,

Our "grandkid sleepovers" are what make me smile!! Nothing special this time but I just love to watch and listen. Each one is sooo special and individual! We did go to the park a couple of times and played baseball. Ya know,we almost have enough for a whole team! The girls and I got to sew on their new machines. I can't wait for you to watch Ella! She goes full speed ahead! (just like her mama)

OK, seriously?! A good friend of mine just sent me your blog - I guess you and she have a mutual friend in the blogosphere via Ukraine adoption... anywhoo, I just read your 4 more recent posts and I am amazed at how similar our families stories are! We just turned in our initial application to an agency to adopt a little girl from Ethiopia (2 or under) the last week of January and it sounds like our families are right in the same step of this crazy adoption journey. I'm totally new to this whole blog thing and just started mine last week, after my friends convinced me that it would be good for my kids, if for no one else. We live in North Carolina and have 2 biological kids (age 8 and 5) - I'm looking forward to hearing more about your story. Isn't this paper chase thing the craziest thing ever?! Glad to have found your story - we'll be praying for you! - Heidi from NC
HC gets strep like I did at her age. Swollen gums and fever blisters. Weird. Tell her that makes her extra special!! ha.
